Monday, September 10th was a special evening for our Saint Anselm community.

Monsignor Maloney blessed our new gym floor. SAYA President Jim Condon led the dedication in honor of Bill Harner by showing a video montage and unveiling the words “Home of the Bill Harner Clinic” on the new gym floor.

As Jim stated, “Tonight we are happy to have the family of Bill Harner who taught the children of this community how to play the sport of basketball for many years. He is missed but the values of passion, commitment and persistence that he taught continue. So tonight we honor and pay tribute to his memory by unveiling the Home of the Bill Harner Clinic.” Bill’s daughter, Kris Harner, made a beautiful speech expressing the family’s gratitude.

The new gym floor was the result of a collaboration with our parish organizations (Youth Activities, Catholic Academy, the Home Academy Association and the Fathers Club) who all helped fund this project. Furthermore, many volunteers contributed their time, labor and skills to make the project a success. A special thank you goes out to Seamus Lavin (SAYA Board member) who spent countless hours over the past few months and John Cafiero, who helped with setting us up with an electrician to swap out the 10 old fixtures and other items that needed to be addressed.

A few photos are shown here from tonight’s event but also the video montage that was shown to demonstrate the transformation from the old gym floor to the new gym floor, especially the demolition crew who were presented with a keepsake made with pieces of the old floor and some of the nearly 45,000 cut nails that were removed. This crew of over 30 people, which included former Principal Jim McKeon and ranged in age from 10 years old (Kiera Thomas) to 76 years young (Bob Fugowski), saved us $18,000!! The keepsake was presented by Bob Fugowski, SACA board member, who also spoke on behalf of John Quaglione (SACA President).
